There is a difference between interest and commitment.  When you are interested in something you only do it when it is convenient.   When you are committed you accept no excuses - only results.

Rugby  South Carolina Crowns Chapin Eagles Rugby Club 2013 State Champions

Columbia, SC - In a match that can  only be described as "epic," Chapin Eagles Rugby Club (Chapin, SC) defeated  Wando Rugby Club (Mt. Pleasant, SC) 24-0 for the Rugby South Carolina State  title on Saturday April 20, 2013.

Chapin, ranked 1st in the state and 13th nationally, was able to capitalize on depth and experience to capture their third consecutive state title. Wando, making their first appearance in the finals, played a great match, but ultimately failed to take advantage of their opportunities to put points on the board.

“It has been an honor to coach these young men this season and see them improve as a team each week, this is something they will always have and remember.  We look forward to representing Rugby South Carolina in the High School National Invitational Championship as the State Champions!” said Chapin Head Coach Neil Richards.

Chapin reached the championship match by defeating longtime rival Greenville Red Raiders 29-0 in a playoff game, while Wando defeated a very strong Greer Spartans 13-12 in their playoff game.

In other weekend action, the Carolina Dragons (Ft Mill) defeated the Charleston Gladiators 36-0 to capture the Division II Championship and promotion to Division I for the 2014 season.

Greenville Red Raiders Middle School team captured their 2nd Middle School State Championship over a stingy Irmo Sting 22-21.

The Chapin Eagles will now head to Elkhart, Indiana to play in the 2013 High School National Invitational Championship on May 16-18, 2013.Chapin was one of 24 teams selected  to compete from a field of the most outstanding high school-aged rugby teams in the United States.
